Writing for the Web: Get Clicked, Read, Liked & Shared

People read differently on the Internet than on the printed page. Studies show that people scan more than they read online. When you write for the web, there are strategies for better communicating with the scanners, clickers, and information seekers that your audience has become. Turns out that Hemingway might have been before his time: concise, unadorned, and direct writing is best online. In this workshop, you’ll learn about the philosophy behind writing for the web, and practice tricks of the trade such as creating engaging headlines and formatting text so people scroll to the end.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

  • How to write engaging copy for readers that scan text and write concise, benefits-driven copy
  • How to write for the mobile user
  • The art of writing headlines that grab attention
  • How to write for specific audiences with consideration for tone and voice
  • How to structure and format text with subheads, pull quotes, lists, and links
  • Considerations for search engines and accessibility requirements
